19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been won on hardcourt

A revitalized the Russian player won his initial championship for 882 days with victory over opponent Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has had a difficult year, winning just one win at the big events and undergoing a meltdown at the American major.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in particular - led to him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally separating with former coach Cervara.

Now collaborating with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually progressed in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's maiden championship since the Italian tournament and first on a hard surface after March of that year.

Success also indicates the Russian has won 21 victories at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my both daughters simultaneously, so to get a title is really nice," commented ranked player Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my child her name, because the initial championship I won when my child her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had failed in his past six championship matches, including in the German tournament in the past months.

Medvedev's defensive strategy and recurring reactions on the tennis court had led some to doubt if his skill to play at the highest level was over.

However the 29-year-old has made changes in the past month, striving to come to the net and play positively, supported by an better service.

He came back from a disadvantage in the first set against the challenging opponent, winning four of the last five points to take the lead.

The pair exchanged service breaks in the middle set before the challenger, attempting for his first ATP Tour victory, seized the initiative to push for a third set.

Moutet defended four early-game opportunities in a close deciding set before the Russian won the break to fifteen to secure the win.

Fittingly, he clinched victory with a rally at the front of the court, with his opponent unable to control a shot after a lengthy match.
